I wonder if in your research you came across reports on the most and least prepared coastal communities for these coming changes? I think it'd be interesting to see what trends come about regarding what regions/populations are looking ahead the most on sea level rise in their backyard.

Hi Matt:

It currently looks like sea level (average sea level rise) will not be a major problem by itself until several decades from now, however when it interacts with major hurricanes  it is a problem for many low-lying coastal areas now. See the paper described and linked below, especially section 3.  Also note from section 1 of this linked paper that many experts (especially Dr. Hansen) believe that these storms will intensify in the future.

I would hope, If the ongoing risk of sea-level rise is quantified by NOAA et al (see the last section of this paper) that local states and communities would evaluate their risk. If not insurance companies certainly will. (see the paper described and linked in the intro to this paper).

This is a minor update of a three part series that I originally posted in late 2018. Part 2 of this series is about the more severe hurricanes resulting from environmental changes brought about by climate change.
