Most climatologists agree that we need to evolve the world’s economies away from burning fossil-fuels and towards renewable and zero-carbon energy sources in order to avoid the worst effects of climate change. However we are early in this journey, and we need to make broader progress in order to achieve near-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions within two decades (by 2045 which many is many US States' goal). Also, there are two types of goals we need to reach in order to complete this evolution:
- Electrify all processes that currently produce significant GHGs
- Evolve the production of electricity to largely very low (less than 10%) GHG-free processes
