The solar-plus-storage microgrid will provide clean energy for companies at the Peel Business Park in Western Australia.
A consortium led by natural gas network owner Enwave Australia Power is developing the project. Energy capacity wasn't disclosed, but it's said to be the first of its kind in the country.
The electricity produced by the solar-plus-storage microgrid will be sent on to Australia's Western Power grid. The microgrid operator will lease additional roof space from tenants and install additional solar power and battery storage capacity as the industrial park expands, according to an industry news report.
The project has the potential to add some AUD 1 billion to Western Australia's economy, project partners say.
“This is a smart, sustainable solution for a broader project that will be built on innovation,” Minister for Lands Ben Wyatt was quoted. “Business, industry, training, research and development come together, invigorating the Peel region and creating jobs that cannot be achieved without providing a secure and affordable power supply.”
