Californians rebuilding homes destroyed by recent catastrophic wildfires or floods will not have to comply with the state's mandate requiring solar on new construction.
Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) signed legislation Friday that temporarily exempts some residents from the mandate. They qualify if they lost a home in a blaze or flood where a state of emergency declaration was issued, and they rebuild before Jan. 1, 2023. It only applies to disasters where the emergency declaration is made before Jan. 1, 2020.
