Overcoming hydrogen hype
The article begins with a question it never answers, with the mysterious assumption enthusiasm alone can hasten decarbonization.
If only it were that easy.
But when powering a single steel factory with "green" hydrogen would require a 6GW wind farm - four times the size of the world's largest, and a steady supply of wind - it seems obvious that neither hydrogen nor wind will ever live up to the hype. It seems that in the best interests of the environment, the hype cycle is best broken - and as soon as possible.
Overcoming hydrogen hype
Is Europe at the top of another hydrogen hype cycle that will see enthusiasm translated into real projects to hasten decarbonisation – or will its proponents be disappointed again?
