My Holiday Wish

I have a broad background in utilities and energy. I worked for Capgemini in the Energy Practice for more than 15 years. During that time I rose to the position of CTO of the 12,000 person...

This is an energy related wish for the new year:

A residential hydrogen storage and generation system:

1)    A water purification system that takes water out of the potable water system and returns 75% that system to maintain drinking water quality. The 25% used is cleaned for use in making Hydrogen - ratio to be adjustable to potable water standards and prevent waste of water.

2)    A 5 KW electrolyzer that can start and stop based on DC power input from solar or other renewable.

3)    Up to 20 = 10Kg hydrogen storage tanks (roughly the size of a welding oxygen bottle), that have valving and can be taken out and replaced. 200Kg of hydrogen is more than 500 KWH of usable electricity. (note: both full and empty tanks can be replaced)

4)    A fuel cell that can provide up to 20 KW of electricity output and provides heat from the reaction for CHP or warm water.

5)    Requires only annual maintenance to maintain at least 98% of factory new efficiency.

6)    Fits on a 4 x 8 base and is fully plumbed and wired.

7)    Does not require any power over 600 Volts

8)    Does not have any external fitting that have a pressure over 50PSI

If this existed, it would probably replace most home battery systems, since the total cost of 500 KWH of battery would be more than $50,000 US.

you can't live on a dream. I have Solar and an electric vehicle now. I help the utility with clean renewable energy during the day and I take some excess energy Off Peak from them helping again. I make more than we need with no other fuel.   I've been doing it for over 20 years and the system is good for 30 or more years. No dreaming here.
