The Advanced Power and Energy Program at the University of California, Irvine, ran its megawatt-class microgrid autonomously for more than one hour. The school’s Generic Microgrid Controller (GMC), which was funded by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Electricity microgrid program, enabled the grid to meet varying electric loads.
