Indian wind energy market lacking EPC players....
Only two Indian companies providing EPC services that are Suzlon and Inox.
Inox is more focused on public sector companies like NTPC.
Business model of major wind players is totally changed after 2017 due to shifting from FIT-feed in tariff) to auction based regime. EPC players faced high loss in EPC business.
They came out from this business and only focusing on supply of WTG (wind turbine generator) or going with limited scope projects. Major epc players GE and Siemens Gamesa etc. comes under this category.
Public sector companies also have no option in selecting EPC players and dependent on few players. Some IPPs including Adani and SembCorp tried self EPC where Adani succeed in that.
Operation and maintenance is another area where even existing EPC players finding it difficult to serve the customers 100% so such customers also started self mode or outsourcing other party.
Earlier in 2016 there were around 32 EPC players in India but now in the end of 2023, only 12 and among that also some are facing NCLT (national company law tribunal) or bankrupted.
We have entered in 2024 and current installed RE capacity is around 132 GW while we have to achieve 500 GW by 2030.
Center and state nodal agencies should focus on real issues in site execution and accordingly change the policies.
