Hydrogen production and energy security

APPG

Following the Russian invasion of the Ukraine the energy sector is even more in the spotlight than usual.

The APPG is instrumental in bringing together stakeholders and has made considerable progress over the for the last 18 months with the UK Hydrogen Strategy published in August and the Prime Minister bolstering sectoral ambition in recent weeks.

Chaired by the engaging Redcar MP, Jacob Young and sporting smart new branding, the group focussed on hydrogen production and energy security following the Government's recent publication of the Energy Security Strategy.

UK hydrogen production targets have already been increased since last August publication and the requirement now is to make it happen. Discussions revolved around the scope and ambition of the Government's investments and policy changes in maximising hydrogen production and rollout across the economy while protecting the UK's energy security.

Today’s speakers included former Leader of the Green Party Baroness Natalie Bennett, UK Energy Transition Manager at Shell Jo Coleman, and Vice President of UK Low Carbon Solutions at Equinor Dan Sadler. Blue and Green viewpoints were shared and the context of driving forwards in an uncertain world emphasised all to clearly with a real sense of urgency developing around the energy transition.
