"Seasonal storage of hydrogen to balance renewable generation will be cost-competitive in 2050" -- how viable is it to plan for it to become cost-competitive in 2050 if we need to start planning the energy transition now?

Good question Matt and one that we in the UK are struggling to address.  The hope is that scalability will reduce costs (as it has for offshore Wind) but some kind of support will likely be necessary at the outset.  Difficult as energy prices are a real political issue in the UK.
