Could Trump's tariffs slow emissions? Sure, experts say, but at great cost overall

The tariffs are projected to cause short-term economic pain for supposed long-term gain, but the opposite is true for their potential effect on global emissions. While the decrease in global trade could lower emissions to a measurable extent, the delays and difficulties in implementing renewable energy resources will prolong our ultimate transition towards these cleaner energy technologies, whether one supports renewable resources or not.
