Differentiating factor: strategy
Consulting for more than 30 years for companies and institutions in the energy area, I found that those that have a strategic plan are the ones that present the best results in energy contracting - $/MWh considering all the sources it uses and also in MWh/physical activity.
Of course, having a plan is much better than not having it! And the reason is simple: having a systemic vision for the "energy account" is a very important step towards achieving and maintaining metrics of excellence.
Let me suggest that you give it a try! You will be surprised by the results!
