NEW YORK – Patrick Prieto, a senior specialist in Customer Assistance, has won the ASPIRA Latino Achievers Award for promoting diversity and inclusion by helping others make their lives better.

“I am very humbled and blessed to receive this award. Helping people brings me joy,” said Prieto. “I know how much it means to have someone there for you when you need it. That’s why I want to be there for others.”

Prieto, who joined the company in 2007, co-founded the Responsibility, Initiative, Success, and Excellence (RISE) Academy. RISE helps union employees build skills to advance their careers while exploring ways to improve the customer experience. The live chat feature on the Con Edison website had its genesis at the Academy.

“I am so glad that Con Edison encourages and values a culture of inclusion and diversity,” Prieto said. “It creates a network of people who support each other throughout the company and the community. The network is our family.”

A founding member of Customer Operations’ Diversity and Inclusion Council, Prieto developed presentations and materials on embracing differences and showing how those differences benefit the company and its customers.

As a member of the board of directors, Prieto is an integral part of attracting new members for Cultivating Leadership and Actively Realizing Opportunities (CLARO), a resource group that inspires employees to achieve their personal and professional potential.

He volunteers with friends, family and CLARO on the Hispanic Federation Citizenship Drive, City Harvest, Feeding Westchester, Museo Del Barrio and is always an advocate for the Hispanic community.

Prieto lives in Bethpage with his wife Fanny, daughter Alexa, and their Boston terrier Jingles. When he is not volunteering, he enjoys using reclaimed wood to make shelves, desks and benches.

ASPIRA, which began in 1961, helps young people develop leadership skills and advocates for improving education in the Puerto Rican and Latino communities. The organization began under the leadership of Antonia Pantoja, an educator and social worker who was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Clinton.
