Alan Ross, of the Smart Grid Reliability Alliance, speaks to Patrick Ryan, Executive Director of the IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES). The term “smart grid” is now widely recognized by members of the public. Creating a smart grid requires collaboration from many different groups, businesses, and agencies. One of the roles of the PES is to bring those experts together and unite in a common goal. Ryan and Ross discuss the grid edge, region-specific priorities of different areas of the world, the distinction between “reliability” and “resilience,” and the call for collaboration across the IEEE.
